U-Joint Bracket Woes
Hey everyone,
I was driving my '89 YJ home last night (4.2), and WHAM! the old familiar
sound of a drive shaft ruthlessly slamming into a muffler. No wories, I
thought, just 4WD it the remaining 2 km's and deal with it the next day.
Next day came and went, and it seems that for the second time in 2 months a
bolt holding my U-joint bracket to the yoke snapped. I even managed to
mangle my yoke a bit with my drilling... So, some questions:
Why has this so far non-existant problem reared it's head so closely
together? (I haven't gone off-roading in between the two breaks)
Did I do any damage to any T-Case driving it in 4WD for a mile with the
fluid leaking out the back?
How do I refill said t-case?
Is minor chips out of the yoke going to cause any toubles?
And lastly:
Since I have my '88 Cherokee about a day away from being my daily driver,
should I even bother fixing it, or buy myself a 4x4 with a good drivetrain
and swap it all in with the time I have? Wait, ok, I know the answer to
that, I guess I just need money...
Regards,
Chris

Re: U-Joint Bracket Woes
They sell new straps and bolts cheap.
When the first one went it stretched all the rest on both ends of the
driveshaft, they all need changing.
There is a big bolt in the bottom and a matching one in the side of the
T-case. One drains, one fills.

Re: U-Joint Bracket Woes
They sell new straps and bolts cheap.
When the first one went it stretched all the rest on both ends of the
driveshaft, they all need changing.
There is a big bolt in the bottom and a matching one in the side of the
T-case. One drains, one fills.
