Trouble signs???
Ok what are the first signs that your shocks are getting weak? Also
underload ( tow a 16ft. boat with 99TJ 6cyl.) I heard, once in a while a
"ratcheting" sound from underneath towards the back. When backing up and
going forward. It only lasts til I get above 5 mph then stops and I feel no
other vibrations. Could this be universal joints.
Thanx,
Mike

Re: Trouble signs???
Hi Mike,
A bad shock will usually be leaking fluid, or a service station is
about to throw the blocks to you. In my opinion all TJs need shock
absorbers. Make sure all the grommets to your sway bars are good. And
PLEASE, don't overload your boat, and keep your speed down!
You are describe bad Universal Joints, look for the telltale rust
marks seeping from a bearing cap that is dry of lubricate, and little
movement when you test it by prying with a screwdriver, tires blocked,
brake off, in neutral.
