Actually, on a vehicle this small, the flat connector is the most likely to
be used because that is what will be found most commonly on a trailer it is
capable of pulling.
The larger trucks will get the 6- or 7-pin type that can accomodate trailer
brakes and the like, but the flat 4-pin is strictly for lighting. The round
4-pin connectors are all but gone, I have one of these on my motorhome, and
I had to build a jumper to convert it from round to flat. If I ever break
down and get a trailer to carry my Jeep on, I will certainly convert this to
a 6- or 7-pin to accomodate trailer brakes. Trailer brakes are perhaps the
main reason I want a trailer in the first place, but that is another topic.

I recently bought my daughter a 2002 Tacoma that has the flat connector from
the factory, and we looked at Ford F150s that also had flat connectors from
the factory. The point is that manufacturers do indeed use the flat 4-pin
connectors where appropriate. Of course, they will not limit their options

only use four open wires without a plug. Look under your trucks and
repair their jobs before they lead to your loom failure, and possible
litigation.

only use four open wires without a plug. Look under your trucks and
repair their jobs before they lead to your loom failure, and possible
litigation.

repair their jobs before they lead to your loom failure, and possible
litigation.

all there is to it. I bought both trucks brand new and they came straight
from the dealer that way. One round plug, one flat plug, side by side on

Take a picture of where your harness has been compromised, usually
in at least two places. More than likely the tape has already unraveled
a couple of turns.
