Re: TJ got raided for food out camping!
Mike, this reminds me of a fishing trip I took a few years back near Eagle
River, WI. We had about a dozen guys in our group and stayed at a resort on
the lake we were fishing at. The resort owner warned us not to leave
anything out that the raccoons might get in to. We heeded the warning and
brought all of our food coolers into the cabins. We left our coolers with
the minnows outside, but tucked them under the deck of the cabin. Mind you,
these were large coolers (about 80 quart if I recall. The next morning our
coolers had been pulled out from under the deck and most of the minnows had
been half eaten. We saw raccoon tracks all around the coolers and cabins. We
then went down to the boats at the docks to get ready to go fishing because
we all had left bait in the boats. Well, when we got to the boats, there
were coon tracks all over the boat seats and floors. They had raided the
minnow buckets in the boats as well! They also opened all the nightcrawler
and leech containers and ate most of them as well. We were all shocked to
say the least. For the rest of the trip we brought everything inside at
night. To get even with the little thieves, we took a leftover pot of very
hot, spicy chili and "baited" them the last night we stayed there. We put
all of our spicy and greasy food in the pans we set out, and lo and behold,
the next morning everything was gone. I truly expected to see a couple coons
dragging their butts along the ground from the burning sensation from the
chili, but unfortunately it never happened. Coons are incredible thieves to
say the least.

Coons are incredible thieves to
say the least.

minnow buckets in the boats as well!

Re: TJ got raided for food out camping!
I've done a lot of travel with work through northern ontario (ok, central
ontario!).
I remember a place out near Seault Ste. Marie (closer to WA-WA I think).
It was a cabin type campground....it was a change from staying in motels all
the time.
Anyhow, we were told at the front desk that if we hear a knock at the
door....ask who it easy. If there's no answer...DON'T OPEN THE DOOR!
I guess they had some bears in the area and they have no problem going door
to door with their AMWAY! haha
Someone had opened the door once and shat themselves quite well!! I'm sure
the bear got a scare (rhymes...hee hee)
