Re: TJ factory Tube Steps
Ya, that's one of the drawbacks to a lot of the Mopar stuff. Looks
good, and works well for everyday use, but often not practical for
actual offroad use. Don't install them if you are looking for
protection IMO. But if you are simply looking for a nerf bar to
provide a step for your wife, they are fine.
If you need protection *and* a step, Tomken makes a good 2x4 rocker
skid that can support the weight of the vehicle (i.e. you can use it
as a jack point if need be). I didn't really want mine that wide, so I
opted for their 2x2 version. Also, someone mentioned Boulderbars which
are good as well. Probably stronger even, as they mount to the frame
using three points instead of two. They seem to come in 2x2 and 2x3
versions. Obviously the wider one works better as a step...

Re: TJ factory Tube Steps
Thanks guys, for confirming my reservations. I undid what part of the
install I'd started and they're now sittin' on the garage floor. Considering
what I paid for 'em, I think I'll order a set of vanity liscense plates
tomorrow:
1 IDIOT.
