That seems strange that that is the purpose of that pan.
Esp. since hot exhaust runs through part of the intake manifold. ;-)
Are you sure it does not keep that area under the intake manifold from
heating up the air including the oil that splashes on it?
Now of course I think the factory intake manifold gasket is a valley pan
also (no oil splashing up there anyway).

That pan is needed if you're going to run a PCV on your engine. It keeps it
from sucking oil back up through the PCV. If you do need to get one, you're
going to have to either have someone make one for you custom, or find a used
intake on EBay or some other means.

Those that have taken the pan off to hot tank it, know an old
engine has trapped a pan full of burned oil that has flaked off the
exhaust cross over, droppings with the constancy and look of rat sh*t.
