Re: Time to keep looking I think...
pretty much the same thing happened to me when I was selling my '93 cobra a
few months back. this guy called on a saturday after seeing it sitting out
with the for sale sign in it. he says he wants it for sure but can't make
it over... day after day he says this. Finally thursday comes and he is
supposed to have cash in hand but ends up getting off work too late. He
comes over just to look and starts to pick it apart. He says he wants it
and will get the cash but wants another evening to mull it over but will
definitely call me the next day. It got to be 9pm, so I call him the next
day and he says he isn't interested unless I fix the exhaust and drop the
price by 2 grand. He said the tires are dry rotted and worthless.. (he was
right about that. damn goodyear gts only had 15k on them)
so I figure to myself, well i will fix the exhaust because some other
buyer may see that as a great improvement.. AND I go to sears and get the
tires replaced under warranty. I call him saturday afternoon (after $500
spent).. and then he says he is no longer interested but maybe someone will
buy it.. -------.. I post it on ebay.. listing new tires and exhaust and
it sells for exactly what I was asking. He called the next saturday and
said he changed his mind and wanted to know if the car was available... told
him sorry sucker.. gone... and I got what I originally wanted.
talk about jerked around. you have to tell yourself you don't NEED this
guy's Jeep and if it doesn't suit you in the slightest then walk away. This
is a buyer's market now.. at least it is here.. there are plenty of used
cars. I found that out looking for used '03 mustangs cobras. -------
dealers.. that is another story. I finally settled on a new Rubi though.

When i looked at the Scrambler for the first time, as soon as the garage door
went up and i saw the rear of a BLACK CJ8 on 33's, i told my buddy i was buying
it. He said he knew i would. And we had yet to get closer than 30 feet.

Re: Time to keep looking I think...
I've been on both sides of the buy/sell deal and all I can say, and please
don't take this wrong, but from what you've said here you seem to have acted
the "----" practically from the get go. The guy may have been late but he
doesn't owe you anything. Neither do you owe him. Once agreements are made
then things change, if a person's word is worth anything that is. Buying
and selling is all about negotiation, not deMANDING, which from your
description is what you did. Frankly, if I was the buddy or the seller, I'd
have been ticked as well and probably told you to pound salt. You need to
chill a little dude. A late phone call is not being jerked around. It
certainly isn't the most curtious way to operate but such is life.
On a more practical note, you might want to rethink the chrome grill cover.
Chrome pieces like that have a nasty habit of wanting to rust, plus they
have the even nastier habit of trapping moisture behind them and "gasp!"
causing the jeep part behind them to rust. THAT is unforgivable.
Hopefully it will still work out for you. Good luck with it.
