t5->'89 4.2?
I have a chance to get a 4.2 from an 89 Wrangler to replace my tired 258
in my '79 CJ-7. Will that bolt up to the T5 I currently have? ( I know I should replace it while I am at it but limited budget dictates) -- o_o_o_o /| ,[_____], |ŻŻŻL --O|||||||O- ()_)Ż()_) ŻŻŻŻŻ )_) |

The pilot bearing in the flywheel will be different, but you can swap
that pretty easy. Either the flywheel, or the bearing. I recommend you use the flywheel that matches the clutch unless you get it machined. It will have the 2 bbl Carter bbd carb on it, but that can easily be made to behave sweetly. As far as the T5 goes, it is a pretty tough tranny. Lasted this long eh.... I ran my T5 bone dry of gear oil on a deep woods run back in 98. I limped out to a garage with it making a really loud Bang! Bang! Bang! noise, filled it up with oil, changed the seals in 2000 and am still running it hard. The carb on the '89 is a total POS, you'll want to stick with the (not-much-better) '79 peripherals. |

Re: t5->'89 4.2?
It's not a POS, just very choked out, as Mike said they can be made to run
nice.
