Swapping YJ rears?
We swapped my daughter's 95 YJ Dana 35 for a ford 9" and a guy came by and
looked at her 35, said his is shot in his 88 YJ, and he can't afford the cost to swap others in, and wants to know if this one will fit, I said I thought it would. So am I right that he would have 4:10s stock in his, same as my daughter's, and if so is there any other reason why this wouldn't just be an easy swap over. |

Hi Greg,
I don't see a problem. There is a difference inside, as yours is an AMC without "C" clip axles. Don't assume that his has 4.10's as well. Better make sure before you have
mismatched gears. Should bolt right in. If he has the 4 cylinder, it's a good bet that it has
4.10 gear also. If he has a 6 cylinder then he will have 3.07 or 3.73 gears which, of course, will be a problem. 4.10's are an odd size for stock from what I have seen. I thought those

Re: Swapping YJ rears?
I told him to do the one wheel, two spin count, I forgot it was the 4cyl
that probably had the 4:10s, don't know what he has. As we just had a garage sale it's all nice and clean in there so I will get him to pull in and I'll stick the jack under there and do a count when he comes. So assuming it is 4:10 all other swapping from a 95 to an 88 should be straight across. Well, as I found out, it doesn't realy matter to him what gears. He came
by last night with the money, I said did you find out what gears you have, he said no, I said well pull it into the garage and I'll roll the floor jack under and we'll find out, he said no that's ok, I talked to a freind that said he thinks they are all pretty much the same, I said no, he said well if it's not then I will drive in two wheel drive till I can afford to do the front. So that's about as hard as I am willing to try to make sure it fits before he buys it. By the way, she got $75.00 Canadian, about $58.00 US for it, not bad considering I see them on ebay for $5.00 starting bid with no bidders, and we are in a small town that is two ferry rides from anywhere, on a dead end road, so the chances of selling this was slim, and she didn't advertise it, he came to our garage sale last Saturday. Hi Greg,
With 4.10, a Dana 35 is actually worth a few bucks. At least he didn't have to pay the junk man to take it. Not even
the rice burners use a ring gear smaller than eight inch. But as I say, I am 2 ferries from anywhere, not many buyers would pay the
shipping from here. Would be approx. $100.00 just to get it to the nearest city, so I would figure about $150.00 to ship in western Canada and probably at least another $100.00 to get to US or western Canada, plus then I have to do that, the shipping that is. Re: Swapping YJ rears?
There is some gent in your neighborhood that broadcasts CB on CH 16 that
I can pick up in north Southern Ontario up on the Canadian Shield. I don't know which town he is in but he is on the Sunshine Coast. I get him all the time when I am on my camping trips. I would bet you must be able to hear him, he boasts about his output, don't remember just what it is, but I bet it would send sparks off low airplanes....
