Re: Strange no start, 88 Cherokee. Update...

Yes, the rotted wire actually is part of the brushes so I am just going
to put new brushes in it while it is open. They are fairly worn
anyway. The rest of the starter is good.

Re: Strange no start, 88 Cherokee. Update...

The old Scout I bought up in Wisconsin was like that - it was an
auction from the Dept. of Natural Resources they had beefed up to haul
snowmobiles. 9 leaf front springs, 7 rear, rode like a rock wagon.
Funny part was, the floors were all shot to hell but the frame and the
rest of the body was great. Only other rust was about halfway up the
side of the driver's side gas tank. I sure got some strange looks
when I lifted the body off in the carport of my place in Officers qtrs
at the Air Force Academy and proceded to use 2 full sheets of 16 ga.
cold roll and 5 gallons of roofing tar to replace the whole darned
floor plate. If someone tried that now they would probably have the
EPA, OSHA, and half a dozen other acronyms on their back within
minutes.
