Sad, you may pretty much kiss your bearings good-bye, unless you
switched to plain water waiting to find the problem.

The new short block was 3months/3000 miles ago. But in that time I went thru
2.5 gal of 50/50 H20/antifreeze.
What are my chances of the bearings being OK? Should I ask for an
inspection? Would a dealer do it? Factory warranty runs out on 7/31/04 or
6000 miles whichever comes first.

Nil, unless the crack was to the outside where you could see it, or
maybe in an exhaust port down and away from the valve.
