Squeakhunter
Greetings, I have been hunting a intermittent light squeak, now getting less light for about a year.
I have resisted taking out my dash, although at first i thought it was coming from there.
Now i have noticed this light chirp can be heard not only in the cockpit ( it sounds like it moves
across the dash ) but also when i stick my head under the drivers door.
The 97 JGC is in park on a concrete floor, it sort of sounds like it might be coming from the
forward transfer case area.
Since it is in park, does that mean the u-joint isnt moving, when i am driving i have noticed (
after spending time driving slowly around the neighborhood that turning seems to affect the "speed"
of the chirping.
I am waiting for the spring to take a serious crack at this, but i have been hunting it for a year,
at first i thought it was behind the dash, but it was very intermittent to start but now is more steady.
It also shows up more if i have a passenger in the vehicle.
This group has seen just about every ailment ther eis, i dont want to take it to the stealership
until i have diagnosed the problem, and can direct them as to which part to replace.
Any tips appreciated.
thx,
james

I am thinking you need a cat.....
I have a couple I could loan you for the night. Keep them in the garage
with the Jeep and if anything squeaks, they will find it for sure.
On a serious note, engine and tranny mounts can fail which can cause
something like the exhaust pipe to tag on something which can make a
squeak. The hanger for the catalytic converter is in the area and is
rubber.
