A friend has an 82 and it has the 5 speed, so does my 86.
The spedo gear goes in the T-case where the spedo cable hooks in though,
so the tranny isn't an issue at all.

Most shops that do speedometer calibrations will be able to get the proper
gears for you. Shouldn't be too hard to find on in the yellow pages.. Most
will do the job for you for a very low cost and you'll be certified acurate,
for whatever that's worth.
Also I believe your 5speed is the T-5 and the speedo cable is attached to
the drivers side of the tranfer case.
