And only if it's for your own use, similar to making a tape of a CD if you only
have a tape player in your car.
If you make lots of copies of CD's for your friends, now that is stealing (more
specifically, copyright infringement).

Nice try Jerry, but they broke my unlocked center console to get in
and steal a few odd trinkets that were of no value to anyone.
Granted, they got caught, tapped on the wrist, told not to do it again
and were right back at it.. This is after they admitted to breaking
into 85 vehicles in 3 days. Welcome to TN...

Often the burglar will slice open a rag top to access the unlocked
door handle.
