Should I put 235's o 30's on my XJ?

Re: Should I put 235's or 30's on my XJ? ---> BFG AT's in snow
Which tires do you have? I'm interested in the BFG AT's over the Mud
Terrains because the AT's are "Severe Snow Rated" and everybody I've
talked to said they were great in the snow. I know the difference
between my crappy all terrain generic tires aren't nearly as good in the
snow as the Goodyear AT's on my girlfriends XJ and they aren't supposed
to be anywhere near as good as the BFG AT's. For those who are running
BFG AT's in a snowy climate how do you like them?

Re: Should I put 235's or 30's on my XJ? ---> BFG AT's in snow
For a snowy climate where you're driving on snow-covered roads, you do NOT
want a wide tire so I can't recommend a real favorite tire of mine, the BFG
AT. The narrower the tire is on snow-covered roads, the better... to a
point.

Re: Should I put 235's or 30's on my XJ? ---> BFG AT's in snow
Jerry, the BFG AT is "severe" snow rated, which is found in almost no other true all-terrain tire.
Go ahead and recommend it. I doubt there is a better tire for the snow that will be worth anything
off road the other parts of the year. Not saying the BFG AT is the end-all, be-all tire offroad
(hardly). BUT, if you want a tire for the snow that will go most everywhere else, it's hard to
beat.
BTW, if you're not familiar with the severe snow rating, its designation is used on true snow tires
(a mountain with a snowflake is the symbol). It also allows you to pass through some snow areas
without chains or studs, depending on the snow zone and restrictions. Having a tire with the
designation is considered a "traction control device" (defined as chains, studs or tires with the
severe rating by my state statutes). It is very different than the M&S rating on most tires, and
reserved for snow tires (most other tires with the designation are "car" tires that are considered
"snow" tires only).
To the original poster, the 30" BFG AT *should* fit, especially if you have the UpCountry suspension
package (1" taller springs). I would opt for the 235/75/15 size if you don't have the UpCountry
package. I have 30" BFG ATs on my XJ, but it's got the UpCountry package. The 30" tire is d*mned
near perfect on the XJ.

Re: Should I put 235's or 30's on my XJ? ---> BFG AT's in snow

Re: Should I put 235's o 30's on my XJ?
I live in the pocono mtns in Pa, I have had my 98XJ since Dec of 97 and
here is my take on the snow tire thing.
Factory GY GSA 225's worked but thats about it, about 50K out of them,
poor wet road performance, decent dry road, so so off road in dry, get
the dirt wet and no good at all.
Pirelli Scorpion AT's in P235/75R15, Awsome tire, excellent in snow and
amazing on wet roads. Good off road in everything I've taken it thru.
They lasted about 50K then the sidewalls cracked probably because I used
that bleach white stuff to keep the white letters clean and/or
formula303, not sure which. Would have gotten another set but Sears
stopped carrying them for $75 Mounted/balanced and the local pirelli
dealer figured they were worth $150 a tire.
Dunlop Radial Rover AT's, LT235/75R15. OK tires, lasted about 75K,
slippery on wet roads with hard corners, tough adjustment after the
pirelli's, tended to float on snow covered roads and would 'track' in
snow ruts from other vehicles. Mounted white letters in so I would not be
tempted to clean them :-) $85 at a local tire store Mounted & balanced
BFG AT/KO's, LT235/75R15's, coming up on the second winter with them,
first winter they were very good. I actually like them. Again, white
letters in to help resist temptation :-) Better in snow than the Dunlops
and better on wet roads than the GY or Dunlops. BJ's Wholesale, even $100
per tire mounted/balanced and roadhazard guarantee. Had one tire replaced
after getting a 3" long ring shanked nail thru the sidewall.
Will be picking up 5 more for the YJ in 31's as soon as it's 5 spoke
wheels get back from the powder coaters. Xmas present for my son.

slippery on wet roads with hard corners, tough adjustment after the
pirelli's, tended to float on snow covered roads and would 'track' in
snow ruts from other vehicles.
Xmas present for my son.

here is my take on the snow tire thing.

Re: Should I put 235's o 30's on my XJ?
Not much. What's snow with you?
