shifting problem?
 
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It seems reluctant to shift. When it
does, it goes in with a neck-snapping jerk. Any ideas?

Somebody put in a performance shift kit, while you weren't looking? ;^)

Seriously, get the fluid changed, check the fluid level, all the usual
suspects. Which engine is it?

Somebody put in a performance shift kit, while you weren't looking? ;^)

Seriously, get the fluid changed, check the fluid level, all the usual
suspects. Which engine is it?

If Earle's suggested doesn't fix it, clean your Throttle Position
Sensor: http://members.cox.net/wilsond/tb/tb.html That's the part that
tells the transmission when to shift, like to kick down to pass traffic:

sounds like the throttle valve cable is sticking or out of adjustment
