Re: Rim + tire Question
It is possible to put any tire on any rim. The question becomes, can I put
the tire and rim combination back onto the vehicle? There is no reason Costco can't put 38s onto your rims, assuming the rims are wide enough or the tires narrow enough. The problem becomes that the backspacing of the rims places the tires too close to the surrounding suspension parts, and the tires rub. You need to check the space between the suspension components and the top of the current tires and decide if there is sufficient space for larger tires. I think you were told earlier that larger tires would rub on the bottoms of the spring mounts because the backspacing is not right. Well, "right" is subjective. In any case, you should be able to easily see and feel any points where the tires and the suspension will strike each other.
