Reprogram keyless fob in 2000XJ?
 

The batteries in my stock keyless entry key fob died a few days ago. I
replaced the batteries with the same PN new ones, but the remote still
doesn't work. How do I reprogram it?

Yup, I did. The remote would only work if I pushed the button a lot of times
or work sporatically, which I figured was dead batteries.

I think it's the switch. I had an MP3 player do this once. Finally gave up
the ghost entirely. Maybe they can take it apart and clean the contacts.
If you live in some place with a lot of weather, then this can happen.

Carefully take it apart and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol
and a cottonball. Then let it dry and reassemble.

they should not lose programming just replacing batterys that is held in the
module in the jeep overhead lite

did you put the batterys in upside down
they should not lose programming just replacing batterys that is held in the
module in the jeep overhead lite

Thanks doug. It didn't look dirty when I took it apart and blew it out, it
fixed it.

Rubbing alcohol is a terrible electronics cleaner, too much other stuff
in it in addition to the isopropyl. Best cleaning is with a chamois

then remove all flux properly [left over flux tends to be a big source
of later failures]. The switches also have a bad habit of cracking

thru minor corrosion--the hall effect or simple magnet sensor types are
much better, although they also get cruddy and benefit from careful
cleaning with isopropyl or other electronic cleaner followed by careful
blow dry to remove all residue.
