Is there any real power up that high in the rpm band anyway......I've thought
about dumping my carter for the webber but I've got the carter tunned up so
well right now. I can pull up to about 4500 in the lower gears...but only 4100
or so in 4th....my 5th gear has decent passing speed and can pull the hills all
day long around 75.....far cry from when I bought my jeep. I figure my
lift/tires are gonna kill all of this on the highway. Would the Webber help?

or so in 4th....my 5th gear has decent passing speed and can pull the hills all

Sounds like you have it nailed.

I get the best gas mileage on the highway running at 2300 rpm in 4th at
70 mph.

I basically have no use for 5th with 33" tires. 5th still works and
still has power, but it lugs the engine and because of that kills the
mileage.

Hi Brian,
All I can find on the internet for the Carter BBD flow specs is
between 200 and 220 Cubic Feet per Minute. If you plug those figures in
at: http://www.classictruckshop.com/garage/shopmathcfm1.asp you'll find
you can't be pulling at 4100 RPM, just revving for the next gear.

I have The BBD, no computer, a stock manifold and a straight pipe with a
Dynomax 'super turbo' muffler , no cat (not required on a CJ in Canada),
an Accel 'SuperCoil' and have wicked pull to 4500 where it just stops.

No wind up for a shift, just a plain flat wall stop within about a 50
rpm band. A governor couldn't work better....

It squawked nice going into second at 45K and likely would have chirped
3rd, but I backed off. I will try it again when I have room just to see
where 3rd pulls out. I already know 4th will wrap the spedo.

Well....I was half correct! I can get 4500 in the lower gears easy but in 4th
all I can muster is around 3500. Sorry for the goof I got a lil key happy. My
computer is disabled and i've got a nice ignition system to boot.
