No, but it is rather elitist! In my opinion, anyone who drives a real Jeep
(I don't mean Liberties and Grand Cherokees - not that I have anything
against those people) is a special person who has the desire to be part of
a club of people who don't buy into the crossover SUV/family wagon thing.
We own very capable off-road machines (some more capable than others) that
simply aren't the easiest vehicles to live with. BUT, we have chosen such a
vehicle. Many of us spend our life savings modifying them. Many more of us
just drive them. Most of us will never go off-road very far, if at all.
However, a CJ/MB/Wrangler is a special vehicle that the common public
doesn't understand owning. Many of my friends think my YJ is the loudest
(it's a soft top), roughest riding vehicle they've ever ridden in, but
she's my baby - 10 years old (bought new) and running tough. I'd only
consider getting another Jeep. It's my daily transportation and, yes, I
_have_ driven mine off-road. My friends say they'd never pay so much to own
a new Jeep - that it's too bare bones for that price. However, I'd spend it
in a heartbeat. It's this attitude...this love for such an unlovable
creature that deserves to display the slogan "It's a Jeep Thing...You
Wouldn't Understand!"
