on my 02 ltd, the heater only comes on when you turn the temp dial to
HI. doesn't matter what is temp inside or outside. if you turn dail
from HI to 85, it blows cold air. this has been the case since i bought
the jeep. i remember reading once the hvac was user programmable. i was
wondering if anyone knows how to reset the programming.
thanks

SteveBrady did pass the time by typing:

Dead relay = no high fan speed on the automatic system
(doesn't exist on manual systems)
Dead resistor pack = only high fan speed on automatic systems
nothing or just high speed on manual systems
Temp dial adjusts the blend door (stepper motor) for automatic systems.

I'd be taking it back if there is any warranty left.
The system is not user programmable unless you have a DRBIII scantool.
There are diagnostics built in but this is for the 93-95 ZJ. May still
work. YMMV
Turn the key to (on)
- Depress both A/C and RECIRC buttons (and hold them down)
- Turn the temp **** one click clockwise
All segments should light up.
- Release the A/C and RECIRC buttons
You are now at the "select test" level and the display should
show 00
- Push either A/C or Recirc (just one) and release
You should see the little stickman and numbers cycling.
(record the numbers)
- Turn off the key to exit.
Then post back here. There are too many tests to type them all up.

That's good. First step is the lamp test. :)

Yep, pressing eitehr A/C or Recirc will start the error codes
scrolling. You will only see 00 if there are no error codes in
memory. To clear historic faults simply hold down A/C or Recirc
for about three seconds till -- appears in the display.
> can anyone decipher them
Yep
39 Mode door feedback circuit is open (disconnected or broken wire)
52 Blend Air Door Actuator not responding
54 Mode door travel range was too large
56 Blend Air door travel range was too large
My first thought is the harness to the ATC module or motors
is loose.
....
There are a lot of diagnostic tests. Let me scan a few pages for
you to read over.
Had to shrink them a bit. They will be there for about 12 hours
before they get swept off the temp directory.
