That exact thing happened to my tenant on his 85.
Took him an hour and a half to get 5 miles home after he picked it up as the shop was closing for the day. Drive 100 yds, let the smoke stop, drive another 100, etc... I checked out everything for him. It was a bad master cylinder rebuild. You need to take it back.
