an additional problem with using kazaa is that the riaa is now issuing
subpoenas for kazaa users who are trading files. read the details here

imesh is not on their list. not yet, anyway.

they all perform the same function, but work differently. some rely upon a
central server, some dont. they could shut down the gnutella network and
all the p2p apps using that network would die. others that are independent
of an independent network seem to function better anyway.

I really like Shareaza (www.shareaza.com). The software is clean and the
latest incarnation quite innovative with support for four different p2p
protocols built in (gnutella 1+2, edonkey and bittorrent). the lates
beta is has to be restarted once in a while though.

The basic function is the same for all of them. But the protocol
differs. Kazaa has a large market share, but a protocol on its own. Many
other programs (shareaza, limewire, bearshare, morpheus) are using the
Gnutella protocol and can work together.
I think the RIAA has choosen to target Kazaa Users as is the most used
program and it would be harder to go after many at the same time. If
they are succesful they will probably target other protocols also.
However, sharing non-copyrighted files are no problem and I don't think
the RIAA cares for them.

Kevin, I see that website is down that I posted earlier. I have the K Lite
program if you want it. The other download sites seem real slow at the
moment. I dont know if that site is temporarily down or if they took it down
for good, but it's always been there in the past. Here is another link to
get it. Let me know if this works for you:

Ive had winmx for a while. I no longer come up with any decent hits when
doing searches. I do have a seperate port opened up just for winmx that is
different from the default and still few hits.
