I pulled the carpet out of my '98 and my '01. It gets warm around the hump
just under the shifter, but I haven't noticed it being unbearable. My '01
ran without carpet for quite a while, but I have it Rhinolined now. It
still gets warm, but not as hot as the bare metal.
I'd pull them and get some think rubber floor mats.
