putting Rubicon axles/lockers in a YJ?
What are the prospects for doing this assuming I can eventually find a
wrecked rubicon? Can you swap the axles and differentials into a YJ D44 and D30 axle housings? If not are their any alternate routs? If the compressor that activates the lockers basically an AC compressor? or something smaller (if it only need 5PSI to switch the lockers on, bolting an AC compressor on the engine would seem like a waste on a Jeep with no AC. I'm definitely in newbie land with something like this, but I like the rubicon's air locker/limited slip TruTrack. So I'm wondering how feasible a swap is. -- Simon "I may be wrong, but I'm not uncertain." -- Robert A. Heinlein |

Hi Sandman,
Except, Simon wanted to be able to climb hills. You know like a Real Jeep. I'm sure you've recorded all the Off road events, note the ones that make it past the obstacles and up the hill. Re: putting Rubicon axles/lockers in a YJ?
Hi Simon,
The rear Rubi Tru-Lok is also a limited slip diff. The front is not. Both are 30 spline, so either one will fit your D44 axles and housing. They won't fit in your D30. http://www.mufflerbearings.com/rubicon.htm Note that the Tru-Lok is the same size as a 3.73 and numerically lower carrier. This means that if you don't have the 4.10 gears that came with it, or you want to go to 4.56 or 4.88, you have to get a 'thick' ring gear. R&P sets with the thick ring gear are hard to find used and cost at least US$200 new. Anyone out there know where I can find some used 4.10 gears from a Rubicon? I've got a Tru-Lok and I'm looking for a set. Steve 90 XJ Simon Juncal wrote: > What are the prospects for doing this assuming I can eventually find a > wrecked rubicon?
