problem getting cherokee part
I have a 99 cherokee that would not start. The dealer says the power
train control module needs to be replaced. There are some issues in
getting the part. They say the part is VIN specific. Does anyone know
if this is true? Is there somewhere other than chrysler where I could
get the part?
thanks

Re: problem getting cherokee part
Yup, that is VIN specific.
Have you tried unplugging and plugging back the CPS plug right at the
rear top of the exhaust manifold? Those are known to cause no starts
when they have a dirty connection.

Thanks for replying. Well, it's more than won't start. When I turn on
the key all the gauges cycle on an off over and over. If I catch it
just right when everything stays on for a few seconds it will start
and run but then a couple of seconds later everything shuts off and
the engine dies. It's at the dealer now so I would hope that would be
something simple they would try. But with all the gauges going on and
off I wouldn't think the cps could cause that right?
So by being vin specific that means chrysler is the only source?

Re: problem getting cherokee part
There maybe some large fuses in the engine compartment on the right side.
I remember seeing one fuse that blew causing a JGC not to start. Replaced
fuse and it started.
Not sure if the XJs are the same or not during the later years. ;-)
Just a thought!
