A moderated newsgroup is one in which an actual gatekeeper or
moderator physically approves of each post. That is not the case here.

In many ways the group is self moderated.
I have seen several members at one time or another remind others what the
guidelines are.
Particularly in the case of trolls or commercial posters.

This is really a VERY good group.
The gentle reminders now and then help keep it from getting completely askew
but the relaxed atmosphere makes it an enjoyable place to hang out.

Every newsgroup has a charter. Sooner or later, almost every newsgroup
becomes a target for spammers, cross posters, off topic discussion,
etc. and the good members eventually give up and leave. It's a great
pity but.... that's how it works, a charter is no protection as it can
be completely ignored.

Only moderated newsgroups can survive the above but they don't survive,
either. Sooner or later the moderation becomes too strict and the long
time members are driven away.

Anyone who's been on usenet for many years knows exactly how it works
and, again, I wish it weren't so but every group seems to follow the
pattern.
