PING Mike Romain

I saw your several replies to OP's with blower motor control switch
problems so figured I'd ask you specifically.

My switch stopped working a month ago. For about a week I could just
jiggle it and it would work on hi, but the switch it self was locked
or frozen in the low position.

Once I finally got around to it I pulled the unit out and was suprised
to see that the harness clip itself was half melted and charred. All
four wires into the control switch had gotten very hot. The green wire
had its insulation melted off about 1" back and the screw that held it
to the switch was burned free of the unit altogether.

Where do you recommend I find a replacement switch and do you think
I'll be able to find a replacement harness clip or will I have to go
cut one from a junk cherokee at the junk yard?

TIA
Matt Mika

That is pretty normal and was likely the cause of the switches demise.
Vibration gets to the connection and the arcs cause a lot of heat. Ours
literally smoked out way back in the bush at -25 or so so I hotwired the
fan wire to the battery post...

You can get a replacement from the wreckers or you can individually
crimp or solder on new ends on each cable and just plug them into the
right place on the new switch.

I got a switch from the wrecker for ours, but recently my wife informed
me it did the same thing again and I do have a new fan in there so there
isn't too much draw. It only works on medium... I think the harness
needs to be zip tied solid to something. Even those stick on squares
with loops to tie down computer network cables or something.

A new switch is in order for me this time. They are something like
$15.00 from the dealer. The parts guy will try to sell you a control
head, but the switch itself is available if he digs deeper.
