oversized tires with spare tire rack and hard top?
I just got 31x10.5" tires and I'm having trouble with mounting the
spare on my tj. I used the 15x8 wheels and I need to either remove
the rubber stops or grind them down so that I can bolt the wheel on.
The second part of my problem is that I read that the hard top's wiper
can end up hitting the tire when you have a larger tire and the rubber
stops are ground down.
I currently don't have the hard top on, and wasn't really planning on
it, but I may need to check this out. Anyone have experience on this?
What's the easy fix?

I have 31x10.5's on mine, too. Used a sawzall to trim the stops down
about 1/4 inch or so (just eye-balled it). You're not going to want to
actually remove the stops IMO, or the spare won't have enough support.
No clue on the hardtop and wiper... I run softtop only.

Re: oversized tires with spare tire rack and hard top?
When I put 31x10.5 tires on my stock 15x7 wheels, I cut off the rubber
bumpers at the mold seam. That seemed to work just fine.
I don't have a hard top, so I can't answer the wiper question.

Re: oversized tires with spare tire rack and hard top?
I have a totally factory spec 2003 Sport with the 30 inch tire group on
it, and if the back window is not closed totally tight, the wiper rubs
or gets hung up. Pretty annoying.
