NV4500 or AX5 in an 02 tj ?
I'm trying to figure out what transmission my 02 tj ( 4.0 5spd standard )
has in it and what fluid it takes. There are no tags on the thing , it does
have " NG " stamped on the side of it in several places but everything I see
here and on the web seems to suggest that since it is an 02 it must have an
AX 5 in it. From what I have found so far the AX 5 was in tjs up until 02
and then 03 they have NV4500's . The shifter assembly on the top of NV4500's
I found pictures of look exactly like what is atop my tranny (big square
plate with four bolts ) and not like the smaller round shifter assembly (or
whatever it's called) on the top of all the AX transmissions I found
pictures of. I bought the jeep new, the transmission in it is factory,
could it have a NV4500 in it ?
Anyone tell me how to tell exactly what tranny I have and what fluid goes in
it ? Gear oil ? Synthetic ?
Thanks for any help.
