To get to Oceano Dunes you have to cross the Arroyo Grande Creek which often flooded during high tide. It was always best right after a storm but they don't release as much water as they used to... Anyway for those on the Oceano Dunes side of the creek who wanted to head out of the SVRA either had to wait until the high tides went down or take their luck. Every angle and way of attacking the creek went down, some made it and some didn't. Maybe if some didn't listen to the bystanders egging them on with "sure you'll make it" they wouldn't have had destroyed their cars/trucks/motorhomes :) -- Taylor '89 Audi 200 '03 Audi S6 Avant '98 Jeep Cherokee Sport |

Re: No No NO! You need a Jeep for that not a Vette!
Driving on the beach at Pismo is like driving on compact dirt road,
even up into the camping areas of the dunes, so it sucks in these people with their giant motorhomes. Then they get into situations like this ordinarily little stream that usually runs about six inches deep. The pictures displayed here were probably of people that enjoyed dunning in the park to the south and upon leaving realized the high tide had narrowed their exit path to a deeper part of the stream. Bummer, because I don't believe there is another way out. Some interesting pictures of old Pismo Beach, one showing the ramp everyone uses to get to the beach and the stream to the south, near the bottom of this page: http://www.bob2000.com/pismo.htm God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ Just Taylor wrote: > > To get to Oceano Dunes you have to cross the Arroyo Grande Creek which > often flooded during high tide. Yeah that makes sense, although trying to do it in some of those cars doesn't make sense. My old Chevy truck could go through almost 4 feet of standing water. but it was a tall truck and you had to lock the clutch driven fan into place. It was sort of designed to do that type of thing like a lifted Jeep is. But the Rustang is going to live up to it's name. Oh is that salt water or Fresh? :) |

Re: No No NO! You need a Jeep for that not a Vette!
More than likely they got trapped on the other side, and are trying
to exit, as the fresh water turns to salt water high tide. Reminds me of the twelve foot tides in Sand Felipe, Baja California, on the flat areas we'd be running for our lives and if the car didn't start, it was c'est la vie. It's pretty down there, if it wasn't for the 250 miles of bad road: http://www.oz.net/~geoffsi/baja2001.htm God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ Scooby Don't wrote: > > Oh I see they were headed out to the dunes and had to cross the water. > Yeah that makes sense, although trying to do it in some of those cars > doesn't make sense.
