I'm not doubting that, what I'm saying is they can't produce the
grunt horsepower needed to accelerate a mass through the quarter mile in
record times, like an American push rod engine, sure they're great for
going around in circles like an Indy car and sounding like a bunch of
little bees.

the same live and up close as they do on the telly.

FWIW, on a wet runway, Schumachers 2003 Ferrari did:

600 metre sprint in 9.4 secs at 294km/h (183 mph)
900 metre sprint in 13.2 secs.

However, unlike Indy cars, F1 cars can go round more than one "hand" corner,
and generate over 2 ton of downforce to enable them to do it (3 times their
mass). Therefore, the above times don't show how quickly they can go (since
that amount of downforce isn't required in a straight line).
