New tire decision
I am in need of new tires for the jeep. I was looking at the BFG
Mud-Terrain and the Pro-Comp Mud-Terrain. I have experience with BFG All-Terrains but neither of the mud-terrains from BFG or Pro-Comp. Any one have any experience with either of these tires? How do they act on and off road? What about the tire life? I want to go with a 32x11.5 tire but have decided against it because my gearing is too high (3.07)and will be using a 31x 10.5 tire. Also 15x8 Tech1 Black Rock Crawlers will be going on. Brand Howard www.jeeproject.com |
Re: New tire decision
I run the 32x11.50 BFG Mud Terrain tires, the old style not the new KMs that
roughly correlate to the All Terrain KO. You might recall that the A/Ts recently became A/T KO, well the M/Ts are now M/T KM. Your choice of rim size is good. I do not think the MTs wear as well as the ATs, but others will disagree with me on this point. My CJ is not my daily driver, so when I take it out of the barn, I generally drive it slow and easy on the street. If I drove it everyday, I would drive it differently, and could give you a better report on the manners. Since I drive slow, the manners are great. Re: New tire decision
I've got about 38,000 miles on my BFG MT's and they've been great. I
commute 70 miles round trip daily, and they are wearing well have surprisingly good street manners. I almost went the AT route since I put on so many miles on pavement, but I've had no regrets that I went with the MT's. Re: New tire decision
I bought my jeep a year ago, give or take a couple days. It already
had the 33x12.5 Pro-Comp MT tires on it at that time. The tread looked good; it was definitely a half inch deep, if not close to that. Well, after a year of driving (approx. 12 to 15 thousand miles as a daily driver, often seeing 70 MPH on the freeway, but also going off-road at 15psi every weekend for 4+ months during the summer), the MTs are looking pretty thin. The tread depth is getting pretty low (sorry, no exact measurement for you); it must be no more than 1/8" or so (best guess). I've kept it aligned and rotated the tires, so the wear would seem to be what would be expected "par for the course". I have not tried the BFG tires, though, so I can't speak to the comparison between the two brands. I would be interested to hear from people who do use BFG MT tires as well, so I can decide if I want to use them when I replace my tires (which will most likely happen this next spring). /Bob "Brand Howard" <brand@jeeproject.com> wrote in message news:<NTFgb.20$1m1.13@newssvr24.news.prodigy.com>. .. > I am in need of new tires for the jeep.
