Then the alternator is not connected to the battery via the
solenoid.

You have a broken, loose or extremely dirty main battery cable.

Likely the small red one off the battery where it bolts to the power
distribution box. That is where the alternator feed hooks up.

The alternator feed also has a fuse link wire on it right at that bolt.
If that has blown, you will get the readings you are seeing.

Thanks for the reply. Now I am lost. I was told that by using a multitester, hooking up the
positive and negative, setting the DC V 25, I should see the battery read at 12 V and when
the jeep is running, it should be around 13-15V. If I got that, then the alternator is
running fine. Am I doing the test wrong? What kind of number I should be getting? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Now I am lost. I was told that by using a multitester, hooking up the
positive and negative, setting the DC V 25, I should see the battery read at 12 V and when
the jeep is running, it should be around 13-15V. If I got that, then the alternator is
running fine. Am I doing the test wrong? What kind of number I should be getting? Thanks.
