Re: motor or tranny?

I use Rotella. It seems to not make the noise until it is warmed up. It
seems louder at idle, but with the loudness of the engine anyway it hard to
tell, but I've noticed that if I coast to a stop it goes away until I get to
1000 rpm or lower. The noise doesn't get louder when I step on the gas, just
faster.
I am fearing the worst

Sounds like the notorious cracked 4.0 header.... doesn't "make the noise
until warmed up" is a pretty good indicator of an exhaust leak IMHO.
That 4.0 and the 4.2 before it are well known for leaking gaskets and
cracked manifolds/headers... Small gasket leaks and cracks often don't
get loud until the extremely high temp expands the manifold.

Anyway before you go nuts or tear the engine apart looking for more
expensive and more complicated problems. check the exhaust... There are
definitely other things it could be but I'd bet it's your exhaust.

I think it may be a bearing or a rod, so alas, two motors on the same jeep
means something bad, but I swear it isn't me, always shifts at 1800 rpm,
never beat, so I'll run it till it dies.
