These jeeps were made starting in the 1997 model year until present day. You will find them the easiest to drive on the highway and the softest suspension of the various Wrangler-style jeep vehicles. They also have the most modern conveniences and safety features, such as air-bags, which older jeeps lack. The older pre-1985 jeeps (CJs) are not ideally suited for frequent commuting and highway driving. Especially the old Willys and CJ2s, which in my opinion are completely unsafe due to lacking a roll bar. The intermediate generation, (the 'YJ') was made from 1986-1996. These are the ones with the square headlights. They are halfway between the TJs and the CJs as far as safety and practicality as a daily driver. However, it is widely accepted that anyone who drives a square-headlighted jeep is an effeminate homosexual commie pinko liberal environmentalist. If that is the image you are going for, get a YJ. |

If I drove on concave roads or along skateboard half-pipes, maybe round headlights would be better. But most of my nighttime driving is on relatively flat roads; I find the square headlights to be very efficient at illuminating them! ;-) |

You are the first person I've heard of that actually prefers the square
headlights on a wrangler... Re: More Wrangler questions
I believe that to be true, as I experienced with my Bronco back in
'78 that came stock with Halogens.
