More Wrangler questions

If I were to get a used one, what is the farthest I should
go back in years. I will just be using it for street use not
off road??

Hmmmmmm any year would be fine. But I think it was '91 when they
started using fuel injection instead of carb if that matters to you.

If it's the name Wrangler, that turns you on, then the year it was
introduced was '87.

I prefer the 'classic look' Jeeps with the round headlights. CJ's to be
exact.

You can go any year, just look for a solid one with no floor rot. One
that has stock sized tires is 'usually' a better one. That 'usually'
means it hasn't been off roaded hard.

I on the other hand prefer the "classic look" Wranglers. Remember, real
Wranglers have rectangular head lights. I have to love that tip regarding
tire size though!

I'd never liked the rectangular headlights...until I bought the YJ,
now they're kinda growing on me.
Never thought about the tire size tip, but it seems fairly logical,
and probably holds true in the case of my truck.

For a highway use daily driver, I would stick with the current body
style (what is known as the 'TJ'.) These jeeps were made starting in
the 1997 model year until present day. You will find them the easiest
to drive on the highway and the softest suspension of the various
Wrangler-style jeep vehicles. They also have the most modern
conveniences and safety features, such as air-bags, which older jeeps
lack.

The older pre-1985 jeeps (CJs) are not ideally suited for frequent
commuting and highway driving. Especially the old Willys and CJ2s,
which in my opinion are completely unsafe due to lacking a roll bar.

The intermediate generation, (the 'YJ') was made from 1986-1996.
These are the ones with the square headlights. They are halfway
between the TJs and the CJs as far as safety and practicality as a
daily driver. However, it is widely accepted that anyone who drives a
square-headlighted jeep is an effeminate homosexual commie pinko
liberal environmentalist. If that is the image you are going for, get
a YJ.

If I drove on concave roads or along skateboard half-pipes, maybe round
headlights would be better. But most of my nighttime driving is on
relatively flat roads; I find the square headlights to be very efficient
at illuminating them! ;-)

Perhaps the OtherPoster drives a lot through old culverts
and drainage pipes, where the round light pattern is of
more benefit.

Well, that was me and as a matter of fact the trails I mostly run on are
recessed into the ground with the shoulder up a few feet so it is like
driving in a drainage pipe.

Found out the last one was 3" deep after a rain....

Note that I don't _prefer_ them...I just *have* them. They came with the
Jeep that I had the money to buy at the time. Somebody should make a kit
to convert rectangular to round for people who are *really* insecure
about their YJs. I don't get what the fuss is all about. Most of the
design work on a Wrangler is rounded off rectangles anyway, what's one
more set?

I personally don't really care whether a Jeep's headlights are round or
rectangular. It's like arguing with someone about whether you're a
breast man or a butt man, or do you like big boobs or little pert ones.
There's no right or wrong, it's a matter of preference. However, I
prefer round breasts over rectangular ones. Call me picky!
