Mike Romain Still thinking of heading north into Queerbec?

Gi'day Mike
Was up at my cottage last weekend.
It is near Manawaki Quebec. I bought
some somewhat detailed road maps of the area.
I wanted to see if I can get my Jeep to
a lookout called Devil's Mountain which I normally
go to with my snowmobile in the winter. When
I remembered you were thinking of doing a run up north.
If your still interested I might tag along, sounds like a fun
ride. Except gas was 99.9 cents per liter up in Mount Laurier.
Cheers
Frank

Re: Mike Romain Still thinking of heading north into Queerbec?

We were going to go last year, but the 'total' lack of anything 'safe'
for 'white man' to do up there and the price of fuel made us just stay
here in the Ontario bush.

The website for the town we were aiming for leads one to think they have
fishing tours, native foods and crafts, boat tours out to Hudson Bay
islands, float planes, etc.

None of this exists, there is one greasy spoon chicken joint in town and
'white man' is only allowed into town by invitation with an escort,
armed it would seem. The only 'safe' place to park or leave a vehicle
is at the cop shop, etc.

We were informed if you just want to commune with the deep bush, this it
the place to go, well, we can do that here in Ontario on one tank of
gas, not the 10-15 tanks a trip up there would take.

We are having our 5th annual end of summer Jeep run this year and are
looking for new places to go. We normally hit the bush in the Bancroft
area, but the loggers have made the trails way too easy so cars and van
can get in and the hard ones have been wrecked by local Jeep 'clubs'.

We were in last week and heard from a local cabin owner that a bunch of
'trailer queen' jeeps were setting up to run an extremely technical run
that took us over 10 hours with no breakdowns. We were thinking on that
as one of our fall trail trips until I checked around and found the
'Trailer Queen' or better I say 'Trailer Trash' fools on a local club
page.

'They' did it in 4 hours with their monster Jeeps and gee only burned
out one chainsaw doing it! Jerks, and they will be the first ones to
scream when the local MNR shuts the area like the wardens are
threatening and the cabin owners are insisting on. (they are a local to
the area club) The cabin owners only want sled and ATV access.

We are always looking for new places to go though.

Holy Jeepers!
I know in some areas, St Zenon for example is a bad area for theft.
I didn't hear about other areas though.
As for the Bancroft area
What area club are you refering to?

Re: Mike Romain Still thinking of heading north into Queerbec?

I still haven't sorted out what club(s) were involved, it seems like a
couple with some non Jeep trailer queens as well.

That area is so hot right now with land owners and stewards vs the off
road crowd I would rather not post names in public anyway.

We got swarmed by a bunch of drunks that came to the lake we had 9 folks
from this newsgroup camped at a couple years ago. They came from armed
bear camps and they went ballistic on us when they found out we all met
through the internet and as a group come into 'their' woods.

Apparently one of the local clubs was posting GPS maps and camp location
info publicly and vandalism has gone way up with a couple recent
burnings of camps. I know one we have permission to use had the insides
trashed and the wood stove tossed out through the window a few years
back. It is getting bad in there..... :-(

Way too easy access and these assholes just opened up a tight ATV trail
so monster Jeeps and trucks can get through. There are over 20 camps on
this one trail.

The locals even dynamited a place on this trail into a ravine so only
small vehicles could bypass it. 31x10.5" tires on a YJ had to ride up
trees to fit.

Photos from that run are here:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292076845

If you are not a member of Sony's site, I can email an invite to view
the album. They are a free place to store photos and 'used' to be open
to the public.

My wife and I really want to just canoe up to James Bay again. We did
that a few years back, paddled from Cochrane Ontario up to Moosenee with
our at the time 16 year old son and nephew. It needs 10 days to 2 weeks
to not be in a rush for that run. That was a trip and a half but isn't
feasible in my near future. The doctors are still trying to figure out
if they can re-attach my shoulder blade to my back after a nasty car
accident I was a passenger in a couple years back. The latest MRI
photos show some muscles shredded bad.

small vehicles could bypass it. 31x10.5" tires on a YJ had to ride up
trees to fit.

Photos from that run are here:

Unless your on private land. I don't know what these bear hunters are on
about. Bear hunting is not in season. About the only thing that may be
in season right now is Wolf and Coyote. I myself are a hunter.
About the only thing I'd be concerned about is Guerrilla Pot growers.
It is getting out of hand and is forcing closures for the local areas
around here. And also the burned cars/vans etc

These are just my Sony imagestation albums Bill, nothing new. You have
seen most of them I think.

Re: Mike Romain Still thinking of heading north into Queerbec?

I never figured out how to set it up, guess I should.

I will fire off the invite links.

Jo and Steve were over on the weekend, we had a couple BBQ's one party
one on Fri. night and on Sat. a Cherokee fixing party. They don't live
too far away. Did the rear u-joints and engine mount on my wife's 88.
It is running nice now with new brakes and exhaust too. My son and I
even did the headliner with new fabric for her.

CJ7 is next. Need all new rear brakes and cables, exhaust (under
warranty like the XJ's), another freaking engine mount snapped last week
and some frame work.

For folks that are members of Sony's Imagestation site or don't mind
joining, they don't spam, here are the links to mostly folks from this

Hi Mike,
Thanks muches, I took the liberty of putting your links in area I
can remember them: http://www.----------.com/mikeRomain/ The two I done
everything but ask you for them to prove a point were, Jo at:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...91718705&idx=1
somehow that doesn't seem as extreme as I remember, and:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...92076845&idx=1
And thanks for a little bit of your personal life. See I can get
you off topic, too. ;-)

Re: Mike Romain Still thinking of heading north into Queerbec?

Hi Mike,
Thanks muches, I took the liberty of putting your links in area I
can remember them: http://www.----------.com/mikeRomain/ The two I done
everything but ask you for them to prove a point were, Jo at:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...91718705&idx=1
somehow that doesn't seem as extreme as I remember, and:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...92076845&idx=1
And thanks for a little bit of your personal life. See I can get
you off topic, too. ;-)
