Life after NV4500?
So, the NV4500 is no longer in production. Truck manufacturers who used
the NV4500 are changing over to some other tranny. I'd like to see
six-speeds with the same bolt pattern as the NV4500 that could fit into
a short wheel base Jeep. Does anyone know what the future holds? How
about details on the new tranny specs?
Thank you.

Re: Life after NV4500?
It appears that ZF Transmissions has the four wheel aftermarket crowd in
mind.
Per the ZF web site: "The new generation ZF-Ecolite "Universal" can be
adapted to the individual conceptions and requirements of manufacturers.
This modular design offers the possibility of adapting a flexible,
tried-and-tested gear unit to customer-specific engines (specific or
standard clutch bell housing) and different shift control variants.
Advantage of the universal series: Also small series can be produced at
satisfactory cost levels"
ZF six-speed manual transmissions.
The universal model "6 S 381 VO" and possibly the "6 S 351 VD") seem
well
suited in terms of size and weight. The "6 S 381 VO" has a 0.08 6th
gear and a 5.40 1st gear while the "6 S 351 VD" has a 1.00 6th gear and
a 6.70 1st gear.
Installation length: 658mm / 25.9055"
Weight: 63kg / 138.891 Lbs

Re: Life after NV4500?
Hi, Dennis.
Yes, the NV4500 is longer than a T5. You may check the URL in my sig
for pics of the installation done on my '84 CJ-7.
I recommend getting hold of the "New Venture 4500 Instruction Manual"
from Advance Adapters. See... http://www.advanceadapters.com . There
you will find that the "Over All Length" for the full bellhousing kit is
25.250" and that the "Over All Length" of the adapter plate kit is
26.125".
Good luck.
