I really don't disagree and still have thoughts of converting my CJ back
to points, but life does go on and we are stuck with what big money
wants to do whether we like it or not.

The only good thing Chrysler ever did was make a slant 6 and it lasted
too good so they killed it.

Why "suffer" in SUV?

1) Personal preference
2) That 2% of the time you go off road
3) Higher seating = better view of road and higher visibility
4) hauling/towing capacity
5) More head/leg room for passengers
6) More options for bad weather/road conditions
7) Larger vehicle mass in collision
etc.

The Freelander has a dreadful reliability record, has the ground clearance
of
a pregnant daschund and is missing a transfer case. Its also more expensive
than
a 4.0 TJ, and has nothing like the power. That's plenty of objective
criticism to
balance out the subjective "It's butt ugly as well" :-). I saw one on the
M40 motorway
recently where the entire front wheel and strut had fallen off - most
entertaining.

So it wasn't AMC that designed the YJ with that cheap-ass failure-prone weak
French Peugeot BA-10 transmission and it wasn't AMC either that dropped the
Dana 44 and began using that weak Dana 35c tranny??? It was Chrysler that
at least brought the venerable Dana 44 rear axle back and made it available
again and dumped the Peugeot POS tranny in favor of the much stronger AX-15.
Sure, AMC was just the most brilliant organization... so brilliant that it's
Jeep sales had the most dramatic drop off of almost any vehicle that didn't
go belly-up. Chrysler took a failing vehicle that was ready to go belly-up
and look at it now... a robust vehicle with the TJ one of the best ever
performing off-road Jeeps ever.

Now go crawl back into your hole troll.
