Actually a bad dampener with air in place of the fluid that has
leaked out will bounce like a rubber ball.

Only if the front end is shimmying already. Otherwise it would do nothing.

Dave, I will have the steering box checked to make sure it is tight.

To Paul, I had the shocks replaced about 15k miles ago.
