Jeep Cowboy
Been lots of talk about Jeeps around here, but who know anything about the
Jeep Cowboy? Below is a link to a photo and a page with more info. Anyone
seen one of these? The locals are doing a "4x4 Thanksgiving Food Drive",
which is a way to give to the community and donate food to the local food
bank. But one of the guys claims that there will be a Jeep Cowboy there.
Anyone know about these? Were they every in production or just prototype?
If they were made what years and what other info do you know about these?

http://www.arcticboy.com/Pages/arcticboysstrange2.html ( kind of a cool
site with other AMC cars)

The Cowboy was a prototype. It was an "El Camino-ized" AMC Hornet.
It was done in 1972, because the AMC plant was running at well below
capacity. It was never put into production, and AFAIK only 3
hand-builts were made for car shows. AMC landed a big government
contract for cars in 1974 and killed the project.
Another cool Jeep prototype that never got built is that Chrysler had
a Jeep-esque grille and other styling cues on a Dodge Caravan, to be
called the Jeep Comando. This was to give the struggling Eagle
division a van. Chrysler decided to kill Eagle insted.
