I own a lemon

Hello Jeep owners world-wide.
Thought you might like to read my story of 14 months of painful ownership of a Jeep.
If you already have/had one then you might know what I'm talking about. If you were thinking of
buying one then please read this first:

Re: I own a lemon

So you bought a used car, and then are upset when you have to put money into
it? How is it jeeps fault some kid dented your car? Most cars end up having ac
problems after a few years. Brakes wear out on all cars. The exhaust manifold
thing is pretty much common knowlege. I think alot of people expect to never
have any problems with anything and really do none of the required maintenance
that they suggest in the owners manual. I myself am guilty of not followin the
suggestions to a T. I really dont think you should be upset as you are.
Batteries go dead, brakes wear out, and ac systems have problems after a few
years.

Want a little cheese with that Whine?

As I see it the only legitimite gripe is the exhaust manifold. ( I just
MIGed my '91's header back together)
At 7 years, 70K you should expect some to require some repairs : Brakes,
Tires, Normal Tuneups, Complete fluids change, Air conditioner recharge,
Exaust system (excluding header). It sounds like your AC tech overfilled the
system, as that is the only reason I could see for a burst accululator. If
this is the case, then most likely he was also responsible for your
subsequent AC problems. Your keyless entry fob is normal. Most remotes get a
little flaky at this age. Disassemble it and clean the contact patches on
the pc with alcohol. It may be necessary to replace the conductive carbon
button on the rubber part, but kits are available to do this.

Re: I own a lemon

You make my point entirely. You seem happy, no, almost elated, to accept poor engineering, poor
design, rip-off manufacturers. I happen to think that bills of this magnitude and failures of
this kind for a six year old car with such a low mileage is unacceptable. You carry on grinning
whilst being shafted by the big corps - that's ok by me.

"failures of this kind for a six year old car"
Wow, people used to be THRILLED if they got 6 years out of a car... BTW,
in the states, a used car can't legally be a "lemon" (I think). Next
time, when handed lemons, make lemonade (lift it, add big mudders and
beat the ---- out of it on the trail).

Re: I own a lemon

Well, you know.....

Other than the cracked manifold and the dirty key fob, all the stuff
that went wrong seems to have been caused by incompetent 'mechanics'.

I see the quality of your european 'mechanics' seems on par with the
ones in North America.

That is not meant as a compliment to the so called 'mechanics'.

At least over here some of them are being honest and call them selves
'technicians'. If the computer don't tell them what's up, they have no
clue.

Like your 'road kill' AC technician. LOL! Uh yup, lets fill er up eh.
What, the gauge don't work? ok lets just go until things bulge. LOL!

Or the MOT guys wrecking your brakes. Still haven't figured that one
out... If they paid, you 'really' got lucky. Around here brakes wear
out at 30 k miles or less with city driving. You got 70K out of yours?
WOW!

Sorry to hear you are pissed about it. Keep your receipt for the
manifold and when the USA class action wins, you have ammunition in
Europe for the same lawsuit.

The exhaust manifold broke on my 88 Cherokee with 300K km on it. BUT,
mine was broken by a so called 'jeep mechanic'. ------- just said 'oh
they 'all' break, me putting on the front exhaust pipe had nothing to do
with it'. Ya Right.

------- just said 'oh
they 'all' break, me putting on the front exhaust pipe had nothing to do
with it'. Ya Right.

You should hold the seller responsible, and the buyer (YOU) for that matter.
Do some research, it's common knowledge the manifolds cracked on the 4.0's.
You're at fault for buying a used car with 70k miles and expecting nothing
to go wrong. If you'd bought it new you would've been fine for many miles,
until you sold it to some poor sap without doing a lick of maintenance
yourself.

If it's that bad, sell it and buy a Honda.

J
I hope you read these replies and take some responsibility instead of
placing blame on Jeep.
