Re: http://www.ajeepthing.com/
I wanted to stop by and say thanks to those who think my website is
good.
To those doubters, I flip you the e-bird... LOL Just kidding. I'll do
my best to address some of the "concerns" laid out...
*Hopefully this will NOT come across as me being upset - my intention
is to answer the posted concerns with as much info as possible - and
it's long...*
************************************************** ******************
Some mention copyright concerns - any used content is either in the
process of approval or has already recieved approval for use from the
"original" provider. Incidentally, over 50% of the content on this
site is from one author - me. Sometimes, though, it makes sense to
partner with folks.
That said, since I've been working on building the website for just
over a year now, I'm sure there will still be some stuff in there I
haven't gotten to yet.
In particular, I wanted to respond to Tom Greening's post, as he raised
some interesting points. I'll try to tackle them in order:
**"My guess is it's just a venue for generating some revenue for the
site
owner"
Heck yeah - as much as possible, as quickly as possible...gotta get
some gears & 33's for my truck...
**", who cares little to nothing about jeeps."
Hmmm, if only you actually knew me...*chuckle* - I'm a Jeep guy. I
currently own an 89 Comanche lifted 5" undergoing body-work at another
Jeeper's garage.
Additionally, I believe in supporting the sport - I started and
continue to run a non-profit group made up of Jeep owners who drive
hospital staff into work when the weather turns nasty here on the East
Coast (keep that location in mind, too... ;) )
Severe Weather Assistance Team:
http://swatgroup.proboards44.com/index.cgi - stop by to learn more
about how we're helping the community, our local Jeep club & the sport
in general. :)
Now, this next link is to an old junk page from way back where I host
images I want to post up online. My Comanche is shown in there (it's
no longer for sale) as is the commendation from our local Legislature
for SWAT's community work and some other junk. The Golf is pretty
close to my current TDI (daily driver).

So, I AM, in fact, a Jeep guy... ;)
**"It's a theme site whose
purpose is to attract people who are interested in a topic (in this
case
Jeeps, but it could be Beekeepers or anything you could think of) in
the
hopes they will click on one or more of the commercial links that are
scattered EVERYwhere and buy something, whether it be goods or
services, so
the site owner can get a kickback."
**Theme site, yep - Jeeps are the theme. Most of the links you see are
likely the ones shown in the Google ads (red, white & blue ones) -
those ads snag me a nice enough sum each month to, so far, easily cover
my expenses - they pay, they stay.
The other links - well, since my day-job is as a search engine
optimization specialist, I know the value of well ranked, inbound links
- can't get them without giving one, though... :( I HATE the
Turbonator (or whatever you want to call them), but that link has value
for my website, so it stays. I'd love to operate a PURE website devoid
of advertising, etc. - but I'm not going to simply keep shelling out my
own money when I can make the site pay it's own way.
....and, to clarify, the links aren't EVERYWHERE - there are where they
make sense to be (1010tires is in the tires section, etc.)
**"That is definitely not an "enthusiast"
site made by someone's buddy."
Actually, I am an enthusiast, why else would I have spent a year
cobbling this thing together. The original topic starter (I'm going to
use his name, and I hope he doesn't kill me, but... ;) ), Jeff, is, in
fact, a friend of mine - we have wheeled together, he lets me use his
vids on the site, I sell him BRAND new Trxus radials for NO PROFIT (my
mistake), we've been Jeep Jamboree Trail Guides together, and he's
volunteered to head up SWAT in his region of the province. Yeah, we're
buds. :) Oh yeah, I also write articles from time to time on Jeeps &
offroading for CAN4X4 magazine & Jeepworld in the UK (been ages since I
worked with these guys, though).
**"Where's the "about me" page? The "who we
are" info?"
Actually a good point - just never occured to me to post one up -
though honestly, the 7,000+ people a month coming to the site are
likely not really interested in me..., but still, point taken
**"Who the hell is ENova anyway? Doesn't sound like someone's
"buddy" to me. "
Well, since I'm from Nova Scotia in Canada, eNova Tech Marketing
Solutions is a decent name (there are rules for naming companies here)
- lets me run this website and still bill any clients I do SEO work
for, too.
Obviously, if this is generating income, I don't want it on MY personal
income sheets come year end - hence an actual business was started to
"run" the website. Kinda nice, because now I can write-off a % of
household expenses each year since my "business office" is based in my
home. PLUS, any income the business makes, I can match with writeoffs
from business expenses each year.
Incidentally, my name is Duane Forrester and I'm a Jeep addict. :)
Hopefully this will clear up the "legitimacy" of my site and my
intentions. If you're still not convinced, drop me an e-mail here -
duane**@**ajeepthing.com (remove the **'s). Or call me at 902-830-6526.
If you're ever out this way, I'll have a seat open for you to wheel
with our Club - if I don't have one, I'll find ya one - after all, I
did run for Club President last year (lost by one vote)...
....and I'm still chuckling at being called "not an enthusiast..." ;)

site is from one author - me.
The Golf is pretty
close to my current TDI (daily driver).
http://www.ajeepthing.com/otherstuff/junk.asp

I completely forgot about those ads until Jeff mentioned them.
Xtension4X4 IS owned by a friend of mine - two friends actually - and
no, they don't pay for the ads (note they are low on the page).
The other one, for FullSizeXJGear is also a guy I know - Richard is a
great guy.
I've done some SEO work for him in the past and needed a placeholder
for that ad size - so I made an ad for him and put it there - he
doesn't pay either.
Rest assured, though, if someone wants to pay for the spots, they get
the spots. :)
....and methinks maybe Jeff's a tad more upset than I am about this. LOL
Well, as long as one of us gets all outta joint - that's what
matters...LOL

I get it, sarcasm! Arrr, arrr, arrr!!! (If you're old enough to
recognize that line....you're too old!)
Seriously, you don't think the sites I mentioned exist? ---- sites at least
don't try to pretend to be something they aren't.
