Re: How Many Miles?

The Pinto died because owners kept their brakes in good shape but the
folks behind them didn't and nobody had hot dogs or marshmallows. It
really didn't die, I recall it outsold the Mercury version by a goodly
margin, particularly the Pinto with the 2 litre. Not a bad little car,
but the Japanese were just learning how to keep their steel from rusting
before it left the dealer's lot and they were becoming popular enough
the Japanese car dealers were beginning to add ripoffs to the selling
price of such as the Datsun 510.

The Vega died as did most good GM ideas, the bean counters killed it.
Some models saved a penny per hundred vehicles by not putting lock
washers on the carbs. The cooling system was a piece of crap and GM
managed to screw up the same engine technology that Porsche used on
their watercooled engines. Then someone tried to create a signature
model and the bean counters cheapened up the Yenko Vega so badly that
Don Yenko tried to get his name removed from the result. Screwed it up
worse than the late 65-66 Turbo Corsa and the later Fiero GT-6. Wonder
how long it will take them to screw up the Solstice.

Agree. My 94 YJ I6 is around 213,500 miles now. Original AX15, transfercase,
and all around drivetrain original. No oil burning at all and just a wet
looking oil pan at the engine end. No oil on the ground or drips.
