Re: Hey Bill Huges
Internet Exploder is a bit more CSS and HTML compliant than Netscape 4.7 ever was, even if IE did then go on to add all sorts of "features" to allow attackers to take total control of your computer without your knowledge [oh, say as recently as this week]. No, I never used IE except for cross-compatibility checking, I used Netscape and if the web site wouldn't work, it had better have one really good reason I would want to visit it. To make a web page that would display even close to identical in both Netscape 4.7 and IE you would have to do browser checking and cheat and add "nudges" to all positioning elements on the page and also refrain from using some very nice features such as odd point and pixel sizes for fonts. Plus Netscape 4.7 had a huge GDI resource leak and corruption on the non-NT based operating systems...to the point that the mozilla folks released a kewl GDI viewer tool to help debug it. Mozilla 1.7.13 works as well or better than Netscape 4.7 ever did and can view HTML mail as something resembling text for those who have such a problem expressing themselves that they must use pictures, fonts, etc. rather than simply learning how to write. It has the added advantage of fully supporting *compliant* CSS and HTML, plus you can put a content header on your pages to get a quirks mode that is reasonably close to old 4.x Netscape. Seamonkey suite is coming along, although I personally use the latest builds off the alpha branch as being just a tad less buggy than their released versions.
