You must buy an adapter, we just can't splice into the right and
left brake and driving light wires:

I just spliced mine right in like in the good old days
Been working fine for a year and a half now. 97 TJ.

I went with the plug and play harness unit I got from the hitch dealer.
Once I deciphered the cryptic instructions it was easy. If you
purchase the harness from somebody who has actually installed it before
ask them to give you pointers. It took me about 45 minutes and I could
do it again in under 10 now that I know what to do.
