Can you remove the boot and the access plate over the shifter instead
of cutting through the floor board? I think that is how I did
it...plus 2 long extensions and a wobble adapter.

You sure can! It then helps if that cleavage bearing lady assistant
holds the socket in place while you turn from the inside.
