The liquid is probably just condensation mixed with some carbon deposits
from the exhaust. This is normal.

You likely have a pinhole leak in the line or the line was just plain
airlocked.

The gas filter being in upside down is one suspect for this to happen.
When the return line is below the center carb line, the gas all siphons
back to the gas tank making it a bugger to get going after it sits.

The second suspect is a pinhole in the line from the pump to the tank.

This can be overcome bu priming the carb several times or like you did
with the bucket of gas so the engine ran long enough for the pump to
suck the air out of the line when it was hooked up.

If it craps out tomorrow morning again, then prime the carb by pouring
gas down it up to 3 times even and see if it goes.

You likely have a pinhole leak in the line or the line was just plain
airlocked.

The gas filter being in upside down is one suspect for this to happen.
When the return line is below the center carb line, the gas all siphons
back to the gas tank making it a bugger to get going after it sits.

The second suspect is a pinhole in the line from the pump to the tank.

This can be overcome bu priming the carb several times or like you did
with the bucket of gas so the engine ran long enough for the pump to
suck the air out of the line when it was hooked up.

If it craps out tomorrow morning again, then prime the carb by pouring
gas down it up to 3 times even and see if it goes.

It's not broken. You're seeing water (normal condensation in the
exhaust) mixed with some soot from the exhaust pipe. Normal.

As for your initial problem, possibly a crack or hole in the fuel line
between the pump and the tank, causing it to draw in air rather than
draw fuel from the tank. Just a guess.

It's not broken. You're seeing water (normal condensation in the
exhaust) mixed with some soot from the exhaust pipe. Normal.

As for your initial problem, possibly a crack or hole in the fuel line
between the pump and the tank, causing it to draw in air rather than
draw fuel from the tank. Just a guess.
