sometimes due to a failing fan that burns out the resistor pack.

Is it really 12 bucks for a resistor pack?
Geez....even at Electrosonic, where there's a nice enough markup on
things, you can get resistors for 25cents and less. Just RTV them
inline (or however they go).

Better check the power rating before you stick those cheapies in - the
circuit board for the heater control carries open coil resistance wire
and expects to handle several amps in the higher speed settings (not
the highest, that's a direct connection. Hmmm... bet RTV would smell
really good on those after a while.
